Street Food Favourite The Athenian Launches in London Bridge

This July, Greek street food brand, The Athenian, is launching a new site in London Bridge. Following on from hugely successful pop ups and venues across the UK, the brand is now bringing their authentic street food and delicious Souvlaki to one of London’s most bustling districts. The Athenian London Bridge is set to launch on Wednesday 26th August and they will be offering 15% off the entire menu for in-store customers for the opening week, as well as 20% off Deliveroo orders for new customers (until 16th September).

Continuing its tradition for naming each site after a vibrant Athens neighbourhood, the new London Bridge site will be called Mikrolimano after a district in Piraeus, and its distinctive design will be inspired by a typical Greek urban market stall. Located in a prime position within the station, The Athenian will be the perfect place for a pita stop, to grab a quick lunch or enjoy a light snack with a cold refreshing Hellenic craft beer.

The Athenian will continue to take daily measures to ensure they continue to trade in a safe environment in the current climate, with the health and wellbeing of their staff and customers remaining a top priority. The new site will operate in accordance with government guidelines and will include QR code digital menus and iPads, and will be fully equipped with hand sanitizer and marked out social distancing areas.

Since 2014, The Athenian has been changing perceptions of contemporary Greek cuisine in the UK with its delicious street food. The Athenian’s menu continues to be inspired by traditional flavours of Greece but executed with contemporary tastes in mind, adding subtle nuances to revive old time traditional recipes, as well as offering plentiful vegan and vegetarian options. The Athenian’s signature Souvlaki combines carefully sourced ingredients which are delicately dressed in aromatic herbs, hand skewered, grilled then wrapped in warm and fluffy pitas, served with oregano-flecked fries, croquettes as well an array of zingy sauces and crisp, refreshing salads.

Examples from the menu include:
• Souvlaki & Gyros – made with either chicken, pork or halloumi
• Vegan gyros – shavings of seitan marinated in herbs, lemon juice and olive served with vegan
• Halloumi Fries- handmade halloumi fries served with either cooling tzatziki or spicy feta dip
• Tomato Croquettes – made using Santorini tomatoes and fresh herb and served with the signature
Athenian sauce
• Loaded Fries – classic or sweet potato fries piled high chicken, pork or vegan gyros or simply crumbled feta

The Athenian foregrounds regional produce and showcases the latest Greece has to offer, serving a selection of Greek wines and craft beers from microbreweries around mainland Greece and the surrounding islands. Sourcing produce, beers and wines from small, independent producers ensures an authentic Mediterranean food experience, a real taste of modern Greece here in the UK. @theathenianuk
